WHAT TO DO IN MONTESPERTOLI

ART AND CULTURE'S SECRET PLACES

A treasure chest full of art

Big and small findings

Despite being a rural village, there has always been art in Montespertoli. The ancient parish church of San Piero in Mercato hosts the charming Sacred Art Museum where the touching paint by Filippo Lippi “Madonna with Child” is on display. Via di Castiglioni is a notable way to visit parish churches, oratories, castles and villas; it leads to the Montegufoni castle, renowned for having kept safe the florentine museums’ works of art (among which Botticelli’s “Primavera”); the other castles, such as Poppiano and its intact hamlet and Sonnino , are a few kilometres away. It is worth visiting the Museo del Vino – Wine Museum – where Montespertoli’s history and farming life can be fully understood.
