The Sonnino Castle in Montespertoli is a place rich in history and at the same time a farm / winery , perfectly preserved, overlooking the hills of the Florentine Chianti, only 20. Km. From Florence, on the road to San Gimignano and Volterra.

The castle, surrounded by 150 hectares of land, of which 40 are vineyards and 15 are olive groves, is composed of a seventeenth-century manor house, a medieval tower with an internal courtyard, monumental cellars and various agricultural outbuildings. All spaces can be visited upon reservation; in addition, the Castle is a member of the Italian Historic Houses Association (ADSI) and of the houses of memory. Since 2017 “Castello Sonnino” has been selected by the Gucci “maison” to be part of the “Gucci Places” project, which brings together 10 other places in the world that for their authenticity and uniqueness are to be protected and visited, and kept as an example of ancient tradition.

In the Enoteca del Castello , located at its entrance, you can have tastings of the company’s wines, guided by specialized personnel, as well as lunches and dinners based on products exclusively from the company itself, or from other similar farms and from the same area at km 0 . Guests have access to the welcoming internal rooms, and during the period from April to October 2 gardens.

Visits start from the Enoteca and lead visitors to discover the historical reality, which includes the monumental cellars dating back to the seventeenth century, the great Vinsantaia, one of the most renowned in Chianti, the internal courtyard, the medieval clock tower, and the historic kitchen still in use today. It is also possible to visit the private residence, with the state rooms, which have remained intact for over 2 centuries, the private library and the historical archive of the Baron Sidney Sonnino , which is considered among the most important in Italy for the period from the end of 1800, the First World War, up to the peace treaties, and first of all the Treaty of Versailles, where S.Sonnino was a signatory for the Kingdom of ‘Italy.

Furthermore, since 2015 Castello Sonnino has become a University Campus that develops courses on sustainable agriculture, climate change and other similar subjects. Courses can be in summer, lasting one month, or six-monthly in autumn, lasting 4 months. They are established annually in agreement with foreign universities that send their students, who reside at the castle and carry out their teaching activities within it. With this further experience, an increase in visitors has also been obtained in all the related industries, especially linked to the families of the students who have come to Montespertoli. In addition, other local wine and food producers were involved where the students directly participate with practical experiences in the various work activities.
