Truffle

A hidden excellence of this territory

There are three types to be discovered: Marzuolo Truffle, Scorzone Truffle and Fine White Truffle

The soil of Montespertoli’s municipality is highly suitable for truffle’s growth. Three types are mostly common in the area. The first is the Bianchetto or Marzuolo Truffle, (Tuber Albidum Pico ) also known as the brother of his majesty White Truffle, which ripens from January to April (gathering places are pine forests or woods with Turkey oak, downy oak, broom, stone pine, black pine, holm oak, the smell is intense with intense garlicky notes). Then there is the Scorzone Truffle (Tuber Aestivum Vitt.), of a less valuable quality but thanks to its characteristics can be used in many preparations (ripening period from June to September, gathering places are woods with a prevalence of holm oak, the smell is pleasant and delicate, smells of fresh mushroom); finally, there is also the Fine White Truffle (Tuber Magnatum Pico), which ripens from September to December (gathering places are the valley floors near tall trees such as white poplar, it has a rather intense and enveloping smell, vaguely reminiscent of the scent of fermented cheese).

A territory suitable for the Fine White Truffle

The Municipality of Montespertoli is one of the most suitable areas in Tuscany for the collection of the White Truffle, the truffle king par excellence, known all over the world thanks to its intense aroma.
