Stefano Cortese Italian pianist and composer transplanted for 14 years to Chapada Diamantina in the center of the state of Bahia in Brazil tells us una story made up of music heard on journeys, music stolen from musicians met, music learned from masters, music reinterpreted from sheet music or notes. The show is a “seam” between the music and stories of this musician, who from the Università in Bologna, moves to live on theApennines, decided to put a piano in a van and live nomadically for five years, until moving to Brazil to a village of about 2,000 inhabitants (Caete-Acù known as “Vale do Capão).
Stephen lives in this small town where 40 nationalities coexist, 30 alternative and complementary therapies, different religions and cults, spiritual research centers and residences, 3 circuses, new and old simpler and more sustainable living systems, rivers, treks and waterfalls….in the middle of the Chapada Diamantina plateau. He founded a music school, the carnival band, a gruppor instrumental music (Grupo Instrumental Do Capao). Builds and creates “Casa do Piano” the ‘only cultural center of music and theater where for 3 years has been carrying out activities Of concert pianist, actor, performer, professor, therapist. Builds 2 houses, has 2 children and marries twice (to the same woman, however….) The repertoire consists of music by different pianists and composers, from D. Ellington to E. Gismonti, from H. Pascal to T. Monk, and many more più or less well-known, such as E. Morricone, Gustavo “Cuchi” Leguizamon, S. Panu, S. Debonis, R. Gnattali, Pixinguinha, J.S.Bach, E. Grieg as well as a multifaceted group of original compositions and improvisations which can turn into impromptu music made together with the audience.
