Niccolò Acciaioli

Born on September 12, 1310, at the Castle of Montegufoni, he decided to build the Certosa of Florence at the age of about thirty. It was conceived as a place of rest and retreat, a monument to his glory.

Don Giulio Gradassi

Parish priest of the Church of San Michele Arcangelo in Castiglione, Don Giulio Gradassi (San Gimignano 1915 – Ginestra Fiorentina 1990) was one of the first Italians to be awarded the high honor of “Righteous Among the Nations” by the Yad Vashem Institute in Jerusalem. He received this distinction for sheltering a family of Polish Jewish refugees during the period of racial persecution (1943-44), namely Dr. Rubin Pick, his sister Sonia, and their mother Henia, thereby saving them from deportation.
