We suggest you leave your car at Montegufoni car park but before to start hiking, we recommend you take a short detour to take a close look to the outside of the Acciaioli’s castle.
Lucardo is probably the oldest settlement in the municipality of Montespertoli. Its name derives from locus arduus but according to other sources it is a derivation of the German Leocard or Liucard.
Throughout its millenary history we can identify three different configurations for the Montegufoni castle.
The Sonnino Castle in Montespertoli is a place rich in history and at the same time a perfectly preserved agricultural / wine company, overlooking the hills of Chianti Fiorentino, only 20. Km. From Florence, on the road to San Gimignano and Volterra.
The farm on the hills around the castle of Poppiano was for centuries the center of agricultural activity of the Guicciardinis who, although involved in the public life of Florence, always looked after their possessions in the countryside.
